Hi. I'm using version 2.1.6 and joomla 3.5.0. On desktop version external links work fine but in mobile joomla they redirect to the homepage. Tried it with different editors, open in current/new/parent window, url with and without , relative url yes/no and yes, the url is spelled right.

Good to know its all working. Yes that can be solved under MJ Advanced settings -> Disable Minify URL.
