. I'm running on a 1and1 web host with a 1and1 Business Package. I believe it meets all the prerequisites.
All I see in the access error log that appears to be about this is (although I cannot tell for sure):
66.249.71.117 - - [16/Aug/2011:10:56:15 -0400] "GET /component/content/21/21 HTTP/1.1" 500 1476 test.folkworks.org "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Googlebot/2.1; +www.google.com/bot.html)" "-"Any ideas at all? I don't see this issue covered in the FAQ.This is Joomla 1.5.23. and Mobile-Joomla1.0-RC2.

What do you have in error_log?

I don't have an error_log file. I am running on a shared web host - 1and1 Business Package. They do not allow the ErrorLog directive so I cannot create my own error_log file.

What else can you suggest?

Ask your hoster for error_log (it's impossible that there is no error log).
Most likely PHP is runned via FastCGI and webserver kill connection to PHP after short timeout (usually MobileJoomla takes 25-60 sec to be installed).

I ftp'd the package to the sites /tmp directory and then unpacked it and installed from there. No problem doing it that way...
1and1 is one of the largest web hosting providers in the world. I think you want to figure out what the underlying problem is, along with a better solution that this workaround, so you don't get buried in reports like mine.

The thing seems to work pretty well out of the box - and I don't know anything about mobile web stuff. I'm testing usings firefox's mobile web browser and I'm not totally sure what that is doing - it seems to support 5 flavors of 'mobile web', so I don't really know what people might see who are limited to just WAP or one of the other mobile web standards.
