two templates

This would be my first time making a site for mobiles, thus the beginner question

I'd want my old site to look as it has before, but I'd also want a mobile version.
Lets say I have the domain qqq.com, and I'd want mobile phones to go to m.qqq.com, how would I get this to work? Or does it just recognize the mobile gadget automatically and redirect it to m.qqq.com?

I have no idea, but I'd like to know before I buy
