I'm trying to install and test this on my test site but keep getting the following error:
Error 500 - Internal server error
An internal server error has occured!
Please try again later.
I've never had problems with other extension so don't know what is causing this one.
I'm using Mobile-Joomla.1.0-RC5.tar.gz

Usually Error 500 means that PHP is used in fcgi mode and there was either an error on PHP side or fcgi timeout. There are several ways to speed up installation:
1. Unpack archive and use "Install from directory" method (in this case Joomla shouldn't unpack all the MJ files).
2. Unpack packages/plugins/terawurfl/tera_dump.sql.bz2 file to the site's root (where you have configuration.php file) before install of MobileJoomla (in this case MJ installer shouldn't unpack it).
3. Remove packages/plugins/terawurfl/tera_dump.sql.bz2 from distributive archive to don't install TeraWURFL plugin at all.

hi
i have a similar problem. i am not used to the GZ or TAR compressed files to upload Joomla extensions. so far i am always using zip files, which work fine. the downlaoded file from Mobile Joomla is called "Mobile-Joomla.1.0-RC5.tar.gz", i.e. it seems to be double packed/zipped. i have unzipped the content and tried to upload just the TAR file but it did not work. then i unzipped everything and zipped it into a ZIP file and it didn't work either. Needless to say that the TAR.GZ double zipped file didn't work either. All i get is the component installed but nothing else.
What to do?

I finally unzipped the whole thing. Then uploaded it to my tmp directory and instead of using the option to upload the file, I used the option to install from a directory and that worked. Maybe my system and yours has a problem with the file.

Hi
I have the same problem. I unzipped the GZ file and uploaded it as TAR, RAR or ZIP. nothing works. I get the error message "There was an error uploading this file to the server."
I also tried to install from directory. Still it doesn't work.
Maybe the installation file is corrupted?

The component seems to be installed but no plugins etc.

Interesting! What was the file path for the "Install from Directory"?
Did you just leave it as ... temp/ and then hit the "Install" button?
So I will have to unzip the whole thing, upload it to the "TEMP" directory and hit the "Install" button? Maybe my TEMP directory path is not accurate as I am using a redirect to a subfolder on my server. That's where the Joomla installation is. It is not in the root folder of my site.
I would prefer a million times to go via the standard procedure "Upload Package File". Then there would definitely not be a problem with the TEMP directory.

Can you provide me with a "normal" zip file for this extension, which will work in the "standard" way like for all other Joomla extensions. I just can't get the thing installed. I never had any problems installing with any other extension.
Alternatively, can you give me a clear step by step guide what to do with the TAR.GZ file. It's a very unusual format. "Normally" all extensions are in ZIP format. And that works just fine. I even tried installing the TAR.GZ file. That doesn't work either. Then I unzipped it and extracted the TAR file. I did it with WinZip. This installation doesn't work either.
What I am supposed to do?

1. tar.gz is usual format for archives, and it's as common for "linux world" as zip is common for "windows world".
2. gzip provides better compressing than zip.
3. PHP has native support for gzip, so it takes less time to install tar.gz files in Joomla than zip ones.

Thank you. Are you saying I should install the file as it is, namely "Mobile-Joomla.1.0-RC5.tar.gz". But it doesnt work via the normal installation route. It only installs the component but not the plugins. And when I try to install via directory i get the following errors:
