How can I test FLAT in a "sandbox" before using on live site?

I have purchased FLAT for a live site with excellent SEO. My client is an attorney. I want to configure and test the new mobile template  in a protected environment (sandbox) before I apply the changes to my client's production site.  

Please instruct me as soon as possible.
