Mobile Joomla! development moving to GitHub

We are moving Mobile Joomla! development to a public source code repository.

Mobile Joomla! has always been open source project and will be. Our wish is to create more active developer community around it.

We are moving the core development to Github. Github is popular, fast distributed version control system, which is ideal for high profile open source projects. When the source code is on Github, it is very easy for Mobile Joomla! integrators and third party developers maintain their own branches from which patches can be easily integrated to Mobile Joomla! trunk.

This will benefit the community several ways

  • The development process will be more transparent - you can follow what's going on with Mobile Joomla!  You can get the latest bug fixes immediately and you do not need to wait Mobile Joomla! release
  • We can more easily integrate third party bugfixes through effectively managed system and process
  • We can more easily integrate language packs
  • You can run the development version of Mobile Joomla! on your site for testing whether the bugs you have submitted have been already fixed
  • Bug fixes and issue tracking is more managed (compared to forums)
  • It is easier for you to set-up your custom Mobila Joomla! development branch for developing Mobile Joomla! extensions

We have also prepared a contribution agreement which guarantees that all patches entering into Mobile Joomla! development tree are safe to put under GNU General Public license. All contributors must fill this agreement before we accept their pull requests on Github. We know this is a little inconvenience, but we hope to make it as simple as possible for you. Also, this is the practice of the parent project, Joomla!

More exciting news to come in the near future! We will post instructions how to use Github trunk version with Joomla!, to test the bleeding edge version of the code.
