Even though I installed and activated the extension with square template, google still informs me the website is not mobile friendly. 

Moreover, it appears I can't update the template version.

Can you help on this ?

You mentioned: "Moreover, it appears I can't update the template version." -- Have you tried downloading the latest version from our site, upload and install the template manually ?

I have the same problem. It works perfectly. But Google refuses, when testing it.
Some more information:
Website: buergerredaktion.de
If I switch mobileJoomla to off, Google tests to the end.
If I switch it on, they say, that they are not reaching the website:
