TOPIC: Installed Successfully but now what?

Installed Successfully but now what? 13 years, 2 months ago #5506

I managed to get the extension on but now I don't know how to use it. The settings seem to have things like pda.yoursite.com and iphone.yousite.com but I haven't set up these subdomains, how is it supposed to work? I've read all the instructions but could find nothing about post-installation stuff.

Hi,
The website should now automatically show a mobile template when a mobile browser visits it.
If you haven't got a mobile browser then you can use firefox to pretend to the site that it is a mobile browser.
Have a look at
www.mobilejoomla.com/forum/3-general/5212-display-as-mobile-version-on-firefox.html#5213
and see if it helps.

I installed the user agent switcher and managed to get FF to switch the site.

One of my menus was missing. I have lots of custom module positions in my original template, will this still work?

You will need to make a copy of the custom modules. The first module is published to the original template. The copy is published to a position in the mobile template, such as mj_all_header, mj_all_middle, mj_all_footer. You can also use a specific position such as mj_imode_header2 but you will need to make further copies of the module to be published in the iphone, pda and wap templates. The custom positions in the original template will not work in the mobile templates.

btw I found option 3, the use of device=, to be very easy to use for testing.
3) add ?device= to the url.

I have a problem with the parked domains
I don't know how to make the iphone.domain.com (my hosting has cPanel)
for that reason I set on the iPhone/iPod Domain
Domain name: www.domain.com/index.php/?device=iphone
Redirect to domain:Yes
When I browse the site from my mobile device I can see the web site as it is on the pc.
Do I have to set any more on the default joomla html template?

There's a subdomains section in cpanel stavroch. Create the subdomain in there first. I don't think it's necessary to use that option though. I have it set to no and it's working fine now. I would say that the subdomains option will be subject to the availability on your hosting package.

My hosting create iphone.domain.com through the ssh so now I can't create sub domains from cPanel.

Ask your hoster to make subdomain either as an alias to your main domain, or having the same DocumentRoot path.
