I just successfully installed the plugin, and I am having extreme difficulties making it work properly (setting it up the way I want). While I work I want it to be disabled. The mobile joomla site says I should just deactivate it under plugins, but mobile joomla does not appear in any way under plugins. What to do?

Hi,
Which version of Joomla does the site use?
Under 1.5.24 I go to Joomla backend admin
Extensions > Plugin Manager
and use the drop down select type
to choose mobile
I then see
Mobile - simple
Mobile - TeraWURFL
Mobile - Always
Mobile - Domains

but to see the "on/off" switch for mobile joomla you have to select type system
then you can see
Mobile Joomla Plugin
